GCF Diplomatic Dispatch: Official Censure of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE)
The Galactic Chess Federation (GCF) officially condemns ‘FIDE’ for breaking its own charter:
“FIDE rejects any kind of discrimination against a country, private person or group of people on account of race, skin colour, ethnic, national or social origin, citizenship, birth, age, status, wealth, disability, language, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, sexual orientation, political opinions, or any other reason.”
-FIDE Charter: Article 4.4
Therefore, GCF rejects FIDE as an “international sporting organization”.
FIDE is hereby stripped of its “International” title as a result of a) exclusion of chess players from specific countries, and b) exclusion of players for reasons of specific political opinion; both counts being against FIDE Charter.
FIDE has also broken their motto “Gens una Sumus” (Latin for “We are one Family”) by shunning and rejecting its family members for political reasons.
FIDE is to hereby be considered NO MORE than a REGIONAL chess federation on Earth. It may be referred to as “The European Chess Federation” (ECF), or alternately, “The North Atlantic Chess Federation” (NACF). Its acronym “FIDE” should be displayed with strikethrough since it falsely indicates an “International” federation.
FIDE Arbiters are hereby limited in their authority to their specific region of FIDE, and not the entire Earth.
FIDE is hereby stripped of its ability to declare a “World Champion” in chess on the planet Earth.
FIDE‘s ratings are to be considered inferior and inflated, due to a lack of long time controls and correspondence in their federation play, and in their selection of the FIDE Top Player.
The GCF Council encourages the strongest chess in the galaxy. While possibly entertaining, FIDE‘s live, over-the-board, rapid play is NOT the strongest chess possible on Earth. As such, Over The Board (OTB) play alone cannot be used to determine any chess federation’s Top Player. Further, FIDE’s sole focus on OTB play has not prepared them for interplanetary, or space-time events.
Finally, the GCF Council has declared and defined chess as a game; and that game’s players shall not be confused with true athletes of the international traditions.
